...Is Avatar: The Last Airbender. I've found that the best writing come with children TV shows. Kind of ironic as we get older, the screenplay rather than being more nuanced, it becomes more saturated with extramarital affairs and sex.
With beautiful writing, animation, voice acting, shots, and to add: a fantasy not based in Europe - A:TLA is a breath of fresh air. Please watch it before reading, but I won't be too spoiler-y.
Also, the live-action movie doesn't exist.
In the world A:TLA their magic system is called "bending". Some people in their world a born with the power to control a certain element either: water, earth, fire, or air. Then there is one person in the world with the power to control all four.
They control the elements by manipulating "chi" which is explained in the show, and it's (not as successful) successor - The Legend of Korra. This show does hard magic very well. We can understand the limits of their magic and how it could utilized. Many of the things shown in the show were thought up by fans before the show went "yeah, you can do that". And I think that's brilliant. Each element was their own personality and everything that is done is either explained in the show or by using your brain.
And it's not just the benders, but the nations as well. Fire is passionate, air is free, water is versatile, and earth is firm. Not one is above or more powerful than the others.
On the scale it'd be around...
...there...?
I'd like to make something is amazing. I could write an entire blog just about this show.
