Full Metal Alchemist, FULL METAL ALCHEMIST

Updated: May 23, 2018

One does not simply write a blog on magic systems without covering...

A beloved anime, and the favorite of many, FMA covers topics ranging from what is truth, parenthood, past vs. future, religion vs. science, and much much more. However, this isn't an anime review site - so I need to sum it up by stating: "This is one really good anime."

Magic in FMA is considered a science called "alchemy" and there is a rule that is stated every single episode. "...to obtain, something of equal value must be lost."

This rule in FMA magic system is what drives the plot and conflicts of FMA and philosophically - says a lot. However, I'm no philosopher and you can go see something else if you'd like something like that.

This makes FMA's magic system quite the hard magic system. In fact, the only difference between our world and theirs is that they get to manipulate matter without really fancy machines.

And the magic system delve into philosophical discussion too. Which for a TV show meant for teenagers, is a lot more more than what modern adult shows do today. It's not a brush with philosophy either. It's shoved into your face every single time. Hell, "God" in this world is also considered "Truth".

This rule also plays a part in the narrative's exploration of loss and gain. However, as a person who hate spoilers - I won't do it. Please watch it. It might be weird anime, but it is amazing.

Now, there are way better people to explain this. But, you can go look at them.
